Upland Country Day School is a coeducational, non-sectarian day school serving approximately 190 students in Preschool through grade 9. Located in Kennett Square, PA, southwest of Philadelphia, Upland draws students from towns throughout Chester County and northern Delaware. Upland Country Day School seeks an innovative, creative, motivated, self-starter to serve as the full-time Director of Marketing & Communications. The person in this role takes charge to advance the School’s mission, brand, vision, and culture in support of the School’s enrollment and advancement efforts. The Director of Marketing and Communications is a member of the School’s Administrative Team and reports to the Head of School.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Strategic Communication:

  • Develop and implement targeted communications in order to build and expand relationships with all constituencies that contribute to the School’s success: students, faculty, parents, alumni, prospective families, the media, and the greater community.
  • Coordinate the design and management of the School’s website and social media platforms to ensure consistency and updated information across the site; creating and delivering intriguing content.
  • Serve as media contact for the School, produce and distribute regular press releases, strengthen relationships with various media outlets, and collaborate with the School community to determine opportunities for outreach.
  • Support the Development Director, Admissions Director and all departments to communicate messaging in all outbound communications and promotional materials.
  • Monitor program results and provide ongoing analysis and evaluation to meet and exceed goals.

Strategic Marketing/Branding:

  • Lead and prioritize the School’s integrated marketing efforts by developing and implementing digital and print marketing plans; producing all print and electronic publications and materials; media buying and implementation; creation of advertising strategy.
  • Develop and execute a dynamic strategic marketing plan for enrollment growth and increased brand awareness, attaining and exceeding goals.
  • Create targeted grassroots word-of-mouth strategies to engage all constituents including alumni, parents, grandparents, friends, donors, faculty and staff.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the School seeking and participating in outreach events in the greater community
  • Coordinate and manage special events and functions on and off campus
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Work Location/Hours:

This position is not remote and requires the candidate to be an active and present member of the campus community.  Hours occasionally include nights, weekends and the occasional holiday.

Qualification/Requirements:

  • Understanding of and commitment to the value of independent school education
  • Team player with high energy and strength in developing and building relationships
  • Strong writer and communicator; comfortable presenting to diverse audiences
  • Graphic design and social media experience
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Entrepreneurial spirit
  • Experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in various roles across the organization
  • Proven track record of success in marketing a school
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree

Additional Skills:

The ideal candidate would also be willing to coach either field hockey, soccer, ice hockey or lacrosse at the middle-school level.

The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial approach and enthusiasm for creating and guiding startup ventures, and a commitment to maintaining and growing the School’s existing programs. Familiarity with Blackbaud, Google Analytics, and other relevant industry application platforms is a plus.
