General summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a marketing professional to join an innovative, mission-driven school in San Francisco and build on the school’s recent rebrand and strengthening market position. As a member of the school’s senior leadership team, the Director of Marketing and Communications will bring a disruptive business/marketing perspective to an educational setting to promote deeper engagement and improved enrollment and fundraising. The Director of Marketing and Communications will work passionately to align the school with its core values by developing marketing and communication strategies that will enhance Drew’s brand reputation, drive the institution’s growth, and improve stakeholder experience. The ideal candidate will be a deep strategic thinker who is able to lead by influencing others and, as part of a lean team, eager to roll up their sleeves to get work done.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Manage the Drew brand by designing and implementing a strategic marketing plan;
  • Develop compelling marketing and brand goals, as well as associated key performance indicators across critical functions including academics, admissions, advancement, student life, and athletics;
  • Understand, analyze, and monitor market trends and brand positioning in the San Francisco independent school market – bringing perspective to strategic growth conversations;
  • Actively monitor and partner in designing all expressions of the brand (internal and external) to ensure consistency;
  • Manage the significant volume of school communications: lead the editorial direction, design, production, and distribution of all print, digital, and social media content to a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Create content for, and proactively manage, school website and all social media channels; monitor key comparative metric indicators;
  • Partner with relevant departments in the creation of school-sponsored events that deepen brand identity;
  • Guide public relations and supervise relationships with the media.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A strategic, highly creative, mission-driven individual;
  • Ability to translate complex business concepts to a non-profit/school culture and lead by influence;
  • Proven ability to help manage a brand, execute marketing strategies, and identify, engage, and motivate target audiences to take specific actions;
  • Strong analytical and data-driven thinking;
  • An ability to fully embody and sustain a credible brand voice through outstanding communication, writing, and copy-editing skills;
  • A consummate team player who can move fluidly from the strategic to the detailed;
  • BA/BS in Marketing or related fields required.
