St. Michaels University School (SMUS) has an opportunity for a Communications Manager with a strong copywriting, digital marketing, and social media management background to join their friendly and collaborative marketing and communications team in Victoria, BC. In this brand-new role you will support a wide variety of departments and SMUS initiatives by utilizing your excellent storytelling, writing, editing, proofreading, newsletter building, photography, and social media management experience, while ensuring all communications are aligned with the school’s strategic priorities and goals.

What could your day as the Communications Manager include?

  • Planning and creating weekly news content that appeals to the relevant audiences, including writing blog posts, reporting on school events, conducting interviews and crafting social media posts.
  • Planning and writing weekly newsletters for the school community and administrative staff.
  • Developing and executing a content marketing strategy (and SEO) that is focused on creating and distributing relevant and valuable content that aligns with the school’s admissions and advancement goals, and the school’s strategic plan.
  • Managing and updating writing standards for all SMUS publications through the maintenance of a consistent Writing Style Guide.
  • Project manage the creation of select publications and the stakeholders involved (including the Family Handbook, Senior Graduation Program, Academic Program Guide, and Viewbook).
  • Posting content to SMUS website and social media platforms.

Our ideal Communications Manager brings:

  • Post-secondary education in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or a related field, and a minimum of 3-5 years’ of communications and content marketing experience.
  • 2+ years of communications project management experience.
  • 2+ years’ of photography experience using Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras and experience with MailChimp.
  • Outstanding writing, storytelling, proofreading and editing skills and ability to create and edit a wide variety of print and digital publications.
  • Experience with Drupal and WordPress.
  • Well-developed project management skills with the proven ability to manage multiple projects at once while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in the Adobe suite of programs, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite.
