Berkeley Preparatory School seeks a high-performing professional for the Office of Institutional Advancement. The Office of Institutional Advancement coordinates all fundraising, volunteer management, family and alumni engagement, and philanthropic communications for Berkeley Preparatory School.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Institutional Advancement, the Advancement Communications Associate will operate in a fast-paced, highly productive environment, and will be involved in the execution of all fundraising and stewardship activities. Berkeley Preparatory School is currently seeking candidates who can successfully manage competing projects, deadlines, and stakeholders with an ongoing attention to detail and positive attitude. Successful candidates must possess excellent writing, editing, communication, and organization skills with demonstrated project management experience. The position is a blend of strategist, storyteller, and copywriter/editor.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide written communications and manage projects for fundraising and engagement initiatives for the Office of Institutional Advancement:

  • Write compelling articles/posts for various media including the Berkeley Alumni Magazine, the annual Impact Report, website, and social media
  • Write persuasive proposals for major gift solicitations and press releases for gift announcements
  • Create communication strategies that support the work of the Office of Institutional Advancement
  • Cultivate an in-depth understanding of school priorities to develop story ideas for publication across a variety of media
  • Write, design, and edit stewardship reports and other presentations

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Act as editor of all Advancement communications
  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends as needed
  • Provide quality assurance measures for external communications

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with a concentration in English, communications, journalism, or marketing strongly preferred
  • Collaborative team player; creative and resourceful; entrepreneurial spirit; able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performing environment; works productively with diverse constituencies
  • Effective interview skills and ability to translate complex ideas into cohesive copy that gets to the heart of a story
  • Proficiency in Apple and Microsoft Office Products to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Exceptional organizational, project, and time management skills; ability to take initiative, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and prioritize effectively
  • Superior interpersonal skills; unquestionable personal integrity; diplomatic and discreet
  • Fundraising and proposal writing in nonprofit setting and/or experience working in academic organization highly desirable

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time position with full benefits. The compensation package will be very competitive nationally and commensurate with experience, degree attainment, and the national independent school and college markets.
