Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications

Glenelg Country School

Glenelg Country School (GCS) is an independent day school serving students age 2 – grade 12. Our mission is to cultivate a diverse community of learners who discover, contribute, thrive, and excel.
We are seeking a Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications to join our team in a full-time, 12 month role.
The Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications owns the reputation capability of the school, and ensures its alignment with our mission. Primarily, this position is responsible for Glenelg Country School’s story and standing, and the strategy by which it reaches every audience that matters. The Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications is a member of the Advancement Office and reports to the Director of Institutional Advancement, and maintains key relationships across campus, particularly with the Admissions Office and Division Leadership.
This is a strategic leadership position that oversees marketing production, primarily sourced through outside partners and campus collaborators. This role decides what GCS says, to whom, where, and why, and to lead the partners and platforms that deliver it. This position is responsible for outcomes over a multi-year horizon, elevating the school’s marketing and communication function to one that is recognized as a national leader in independent schools.
Essential Functions:
Brand & Marketing Strategy

Own the brand: positioning, messaging architecture, visual identity standards, and their enforcement.

Build the annual integrated marketing plan in partnership with admissions and the advancement leadership team.

Direct outside marketing and creative partners: set strategy, manage scopes, and hold work to the brand standard.

Website & Digital

Own website strategy and governance: information architecture, content standards, analytics, and an improvement roadmap.

Lead digital marketing: social platforms, paid campaigns, email strategy, and SEO.

Report digital performance monthly and adjust strategy from the data.

Storytelling & Executive Communications

Set the school’s content strategy: the stories, voices, and moments that prove the school’s value.

Draft and shape communications for the Head of School and institutional leadership.

Own crisis and rapid-response communications support, in partnership with school leadership.

Media & Cross-Campus Leadership

Cultivate media relationships and place stories that build the school’s regional standing.

Lead communications standards across campus: advise divisions and departments and run the structures that keep school communications coherent.

Serve as the communications thought partner to school and division leadership across campus, with particular attention to Admissions and Advancement.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

Seven or more years of progressive marketing/communications experience with demonstrated strategic leadership – owning strategy, not only production; independent school or education experience preferred.

Experience with web content management systems and design platforms is essential.

Skills and Abilities:

Strong project and time management skills and demonstrated success in directing agencies or outside creative partners.

Strong analytics fluency: making and defending decisions from data.

Collaborative, team player mentality with high EQ.

Exceptional writing, including executive voice work.

Detail oriented with the ability to be flexible and adhere to strict deadlines.

Compensation Range:  $100,000 – $125,000; commensurate with experience. GCS offers a robust benefits package including health insurances, retirement plan with matching, and generous leave and holidays for time off.
