Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications

An innovative and driven leader, the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications will be confident, able to work independently as well as in a team, and effectively interact across all levels of the organization. This person will develop and own the enterprise strategic marketing strategy, leveraging insight from across the organization and their own external network, to anticipate market trends and identify opportunities for profitable growth. Reporting to the Head of School and serving on the Senior Leadership Team, this full-time administrative faculty role will partner with all functions in the school to deploy this strategy, generating broader and more comprehensive awareness of the qualities and character of the school community, in order to achieve goals in enrollment and advancement, and ensure sustainable growth. The Director is responsible for developing all integrated communications, and for marketing products and services in all internal and external media, to include newsletters and other print and digital publications, Web, social media, and other digital communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the lead marketing and communications executive, articulating the school’s vision and image across all media to ensure a consistent, positive brand and message of excellence
  • Plans, designs, and executes production of all print and Web-based publications and communications for the school, to include though not limited to social media, online presence, admissions and camp materials and other brochures, articles for local press, photos and videos
  • Serve as editor of Tabor Today Magazine
  • Supports the Advancement and Admissions Offices, as well as the offices of the Head of School, Academics, and school-wide administration and programming
  • In collaboration with senior leadership, develops a practical and strategic marketing and communications plan to identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities; and to more clearly articulate and advance the Tabor brand identity, broaden awareness of its academic and other programs, and support departmental growth objectives.
  • Anticipates and identifies new opportunities, challenges, and emerging issues to be imminently faced by the school and makes recommendations for action
  • Independently activates and implements approved plans with existing assets, and makes proposals for additional assets where necessary, coupled with relative measurement and adaptation strategies
  • Directs all staff engaged in marketing/communications activities to ensure a coherent internal and external set of messages and communications platform
  • Manages crisis communications operations in times of need
  • Makes recommendations to leadership relative to staffing and periodic interdepartmental collaboration in pursuit of shared goals
  • Direct Supervisor to SMAC team and the Archivist/Archives

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Years of Experience – 10+ years relevant experience with proven track record for success, management experience preferred
  • Education – master’s degree in marketing, English, communications, business administration, or a related field
  • Current certifications in digital marketing desired

  • Demonstrated Marketing and Communications acumen, with the ability to lead the discussion of best practices in all forms of the discipline including branding, advertising, public relations, publications, digital media and events
  • Accountable approach to initiatives; can make recommendations with measurement strategies and contingency plans based on performance.
  • Strategic thinking and sense of urgency, seeks out opportunities with key staff members to anticipate marketing and communications needs and prepare recommendations.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interact with all diverse constituent bodies of the school as an ambassador.
  • Appreciation and demonstrated understanding of Tabor Academy’s mission and values and educational purpose; ability to adapt behavior to function effectively in the school’s culture
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and effectively resolve issues
